Hej,
Det har länge cirkulerat diverse olika uppgifter om vilka ID-handlingar man behöver ha med sig i bilen, om man skulle bli stoppad av polisen i Spanien.
På den nya Facebook-sidan:

finns följande information (på engelska):
"What ID documents do I have to carry when I am driving in Spain?
If the police ask you to identify ,it will be enough with you driving licence in both cases (Residents / Non Redsidents). Because it is an official document with photo.
So the only difference in the 2 cases , is when you are going to be fined and you have NIE number or not:
1- showing your Spanish Driving Licence / European Driving Licence + NIE number, you can pay the fine in 20 days.
2-showing your European Driving Licence / Passport, you will have to pay the fine on the spot. (because do not have NIE number )
So forget the "Chinese whispers" about to carry always your Passport in your car, when you have to identify yourself to the police, you can use an official ID document;
- Driving Licence (with photo).
- NIE card.
- Passport
You can use whichever you want, but remember that in SPain, it is compulsory to carry your driving licence while driving so you do not need to carry another ID document."
